ALL OUR PRACTICAL GUIDES TO MOVE FROM PS4 TO PS5
We provide practical guides for PlayStation 4 users moving to the next generation, explaining how to get your PlayStation 5 experience off to a great start using your PS4 hardware and content :
- How to connect to PS5 with your PSN account
- How to transfer your PS4 data to PS5, the complete guide

Connect to PS5 with your PSN account
Have you just bought a PlayStation 5 or are you about to get yours back? Either way, you might want to know a little bit more about an important process: logging into your Sony Entertainment Network (or PlayStation Network, aka PSN) account on your new machine! It’s almost an imminent reflex if you already have an account registered on PlayStation 4 or even on an older machine in Sony’s console ecosystem.
As long as you have a PlayStation Network account that you have used on your PS4, you will be able to import it and all related information and content (game library, online ID, trophies, friends list…) to your PS5.
This synchronization will be immediate as long as you connect your new console to the Internet and log into your PSN account as soon as it prompts you to do so the first time you start it up! You will be able to connect either via your login or by using the mobile application associated with a QR code.
Transfer your PS4 data to PS5, the complete guide
With backwards compatibility, it becomes natural to try to transfer your PS4 data to a PS5, especially if you plan to use only the latter to play your PS4 games! Three methods are available to you:
- Connect your two consoles to each other (either wired or on the same wifi network)
- Go through an external USB support
- Simply use downloading from the cloud (if you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber) and from your game library (for applications)
The methods for transferring data via USB or download are quite simple and already known, working in the same way as when you transfer data from one PS4 to another. The transfer technique by connecting the two consoles, which also worked on PS4, has a significant and very practical specificity: it is possible to transfer your PS4 data to PS5 in the background while playing a PS5 game for example !
